“Music is my identity. Without it, who would I be?” – PRIYA
Priya hit the music scene in 2006 with her first track, a sultry and smooth hit SImple LIfe.
It’s her distinctive voice that sets her apart, rendering her style of music as a lyrical blend of soulful vocals mixed to pop dance anthems. Priya’s Eastern-Western synthesis has taken her from her Toronto hometown to Mumbai, India. Priya got her first taste of Bollywood in 2008, when she collaborated with multi-million album selling pop singer Mika Singh. The songs Whiskey (Party Special) and Nazaerein Milane Wali (Apple Music) features Hindi and English hooks sung by Priya. With an incredible response to these songs, Priya and Singh joined forces once again on Apun Ke Saath (With Us), a track for Bollywood Blockbuster “Mission Istanbul” starring a-listers like Vivek Oberoi, Abhishek Bachchan and Zayed Khan. This song was featured at IIFA in Bangkok with a jaw dropping performance by Oberoi.
No stranger to the spotlight, Priya has performed for audiences of over 100, 000 people at Canadian South Asian festivals such as Masala! Mehendi! Masti!, RBC Desifest, and the TELUS Mosaic South Asian Heritage Festival of Mississauga and most recently was personally invited by Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina Wazeid, to represent Canada at the International Bangla Music Festival 2010. Priya stands out with a unique style cultivated by a variety of influences. From classical Indian to Electro Pop, her sound is gaining mass appeal. Priya’s next single, is a pop dance record, called “Release Me”.
“This song [Release Me] was written for the Deejay. They contribute significantly to the success of an artist and they don’t get enough credit. Turn on the radio a Deejay is playing the song. Go to a club the Deejay is keeping everyone on the dance floor. I just wanted to return the love. Besides I think they [Deejays] are mad sexy.”
The track “Release Me” by Priya is set to come out Fall 2011.
